My review: Romance Nº 1 is a piece in three sections, with an accompanied melody texture and a tranquil tempo, creating an atmosphere of calm and reflection. The thematic unity and the constant accompaniment of arpeggios give the piece a sense of cohesion, with a second development section and a third recapitulation section. In fact, it is constructed from a harmonic progression (accompaniment) upon which small variations on the main theme melody are layered. Ronald Karle - Walking Suite - Walking 3 - When you are alone
Walking 3 - When you are aloneis the third of the four piano pieces that make up Ronald Karle's Walking Suite.
This piece represents a radical departure from the previous two, which, as we saw, maintained the exact same structure, key, and time signature.
In this case, piece number three shares with its predecessors the key of B minor, as well as the texture of a melody with long notes accompanied by arpeggios in the left hand.
The first thing that stands out is its monothematic nature; that is, the piece consists of a single musical theme that is repeated with more or less variation.
It is significant to mention that it begins with a short introduction played by the left hand alone, after which the theme begins in the right hand. Once this theme is presented, the introduction (acting as a link) leads us back to the same theme, with slight variations, after which the left-hand introduction reappears, but with truncated chords in the right hand. It is striking that the chords seem to be "interchanged"; that is, while the left hand plays the arpeggio on F-sharp minor, the right hand plays the B minor chord, and vice versa.
At this point, the entire section is repeated, from the beginning of the first exposition of the theme. Following this, after an introduction by the left hand alone, a coda, again built upon the theme with slight variations that suggest almost improvisation, concludes the piece.
It is important to note and remember how this coda is constructed, since the fourth piece of the suite constructs its coda in the same way, even repeating a small three-note motif from the coda of this piece, as we will see shortly.
