Hudson Gimenez - Romance Nº 1

My review:       Romance Nº 1   is a piece in three sections, with an accompanied melody texture and a tranquil tempo, creating an atmosphere of calm and reflection. The thematic unity and the constant accompaniment of arpeggios give the piece a sense of cohesion, with a second development section and a third recapitulation section. In fact, it is constructed from a harmonic progression (accompaniment) upon which small variations on the main theme melody are layered.       Gimenez's social links:           Facebook      YouTube      SoundCloud     Enjoy  "Romance Nº 1" ,  performed by Carlos Marín Trigo:

What is harmony?

In music, we understand harmony as the discipline that studies the formation of chords and the relationship between them, that is, how they are combined with each other to obtain the musical work.

And so what is a chord?

The concept of chord has varied throughout the history of music.

Thus, we have a classic definition, which says that a chord is the simultaneity of at least three sounds, ordered by intervals of thirds.

According to this concept, we can talk about fifth chords (or triads), seventh chords (or tetrads), ninth chords, eleventh chords, etc.

On the other hand, to the extent that new sonorities were experimented with and searched for, in the 20th century, the concept of a chord changed radically and came to be considered as any two sounds that are heard simultaneously, regardless of whether or not they can be ordered by thirds.

This is why, today, it is common to find the famous clusters in musical works, which consist of creating a sonority through a number of sounds by joint degrees.

And you, do you know any other chord concept? What is your favorite chord? Tell me in the comments!
